Sternutation Erupts by Nessa Morris With a quaking and shaking that grows, the volcano convulses and blows. Through my giant "Achoo!" I spout green lava goo that starts flowing all over my clothes.
Haven’t done a limerick in a while, so I felt it was time to go back to my comfort zone. And naturally, it had to be about snot. I don’t know why I am so good about writing about snot and sneezes. Honestly, I should write a book composed of just sneezing poems and stories.
As for the title to this poem, yet again I was stumped, so I thought I’d give give you a vocabulary lesson. How many of you knew what “sternutation” meant without having to look it up? Anyone? Anyone?
Well, “whistle” won the w-word war. I was really rooting for “wiggles,” and no one voted for it. Sniff, sniff… “Wombat” was my second choice. Maybe I’ll write about a whistling wombat who wiggles. Hmm…
The reason for my unnatural prejudice against “whistle” is that my 4-year old daughter’s favorite song is Whistle by Flo Rida, and I’m sooo sick of hearing it. She actually taught herself to whistle because of that song, much to the annoyance of her 6-year old brother, who still can’t whistle.
In case you’re wondering, my 6-year old son’s favorite song is Sexy and I Know It. He actually wrote the song’s name on a questionnaire about his favorite things on his first day of first grade. Wonder what the teacher thought about that… and now the school year is over. My kids are growing up too fast. Good thing I’m not…
